Amazon UAE PPC Guide
Amazon.ae is Amazon's United Arab Emirates store, and several of the assumptions behind a European or North American campaign stop holding there. Learn which ones, and what to do instead.
Marketplace: amazon.ae | Currency: AED
Marketplace Overview
Amazon.ae is Amazon's marketplace for the United Arab Emirates. It did not begin as an Amazon store: it grew out of Souq.com, which Amazon acquired and relaunched as Amazon.ae in 2019, and part of that inheritance is still visible in how the store works. Cash on delivery remains a payment option alongside cards, so some of your orders are settled at the door rather than at checkout, which changes both when the money arrives and what a failed order looks like in your reporting.
The store's default interface language is English, and English listings are workable from the start, so the full translation project a launch in Germany or Japan demands does not apply in the same way. Arabic is available across the website and the app, though, so the store is bilingual on the shopper's side. The practical consequence for advertising is that queries reach your campaigns in more than one script, and a keyword list exported from a UK or US account contains none of the Arabic ones.
Structurally, the UAE is its own registration and its own stock. Selling in Saudi Arabia through amazon.sa means a separate marketplace account rather than an extension of this one, and there is no regional programme moving units across that border on your behalf. Tax sits on top of that: a non-resident making a taxable supply in the UAE can be required to register for VAT from the first sale, with no threshold to sit under, although whether the obligation falls on you or on a VAT registered business customer depends on the transaction, so settle the local cost base with an adviser before you set a target rather than after. Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and Stores are all available, so the levers are familiar even where the market is not.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon UAE
Build the keyword list in both scripts
The store runs in English by default but shoppers can browse it in Arabic, so queries arrive in Arabic script, in English, and in Latin script transliterations of Arabic words. Match types do not bridge two scripts, so harvest converting terms out of your own search term report and give the Arabic ones their own ad groups rather than translating a list you already own.
Plan the year on the Hijri calendar, not the Gregorian one
Ramadan and the two Eids follow the Hijri calendar, so they fall earlier against the Gregorian calendar each year and a flight copied from last year's dates lands in the wrong week. Anchor budgets and flights to those dates, to White Friday, the regional name for the late November sales event, and to Eid Al Etihad at the start of December.
Rebuild dayparting from local hours
The marketplace clock is Gulf Standard Time and it does not shift for daylight saving, so a schedule imported from a European or North American account drifts against it twice a year. The local week differs too: the public sector moved to a Monday to Friday week with a half day on Friday in 2022, and many private employers followed. Measure your own hour by hour revenue per click here first, then adjust bids on deviation from it rather than switching hours off.
Set the target from the net figure
Break-even ACoS is price minus cost of goods minus fees, divided by price, and here that price is a VAT inclusive shelf figure carrying local fulfilment and any import cost. Work the break-even out in dirhams before carrying an ACoS target across from another marketplace, because a target set against a different cost base says nothing about this one.
Treat UAE stock as its own pool
Inventory is held per marketplace, so a UAE campaign cannot borrow cover from your European or North American stock, and amazon.sa is a separate marketplace rather than a second outlet for the same units. Check cover here before pushing top of search bids, because winning the placement while the units run out wastes the modifier and the rank it bought.
Set placement modifiers from local conversion
Placement modifiers multiply the bid you have already adjusted, so the two compound, and a modifier carried over from another store lands on top of economics it was never calculated against. Set the base bid to the worst converting placement, then raise the better placements in proportion to their conversion rate relative to it, using UAE data only.

Challenges
- -Keyword research spans two scripts, and an imported list covers neither the Arabic nor the transliterated queries
- -Ramadan and Eid move against the Gregorian calendar each year, so last year's promotional plan cannot be reused by date
- -A non-resident can face UAE VAT registration from its first taxable supply, with no threshold to sit under
- -Inventory is held per marketplace, so UAE cover cannot be topped up from European or North American stock
- -Cash on delivery orders settle at the door rather than at checkout, which changes cash timing and the shape of failed orders
Opportunities
- +English is the default interface language and English listings are workable, so a launch here avoids the full translation project a German or Japanese one requires, even though Arabic keyword coverage is still work
- +Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and Stores are all available, so campaign structure transfers directly
- +Search term data here is independent of your other stores, so harvesting starts clean instead of inheriting old negative lists
- +White Friday, Ramadan and Eid Al Etihad are dated events specific to this region to plan campaign flights around
- +The local week and clock are the marketplace's own, so there is a dayparting curve here to measure and optimise against rather than inherit
