Amazon Italy PPC Guide
Amazon Italy sells in Italian and settles in euros. Learn how keyword research, tax registration and fulfilment choices change when you advertise on amazon.it.
Marketplace: amazon.it | Currency: EUR
Marketplace Overview
Amazon Italy (amazon.it) is Amazon's Italian marketplace. It trades in euros, and shoppers browse, search and read reviews in Italian. It sits inside Amazon's European network, so an account already selling in Germany, France or Spain can usually add Italy without opening a separate business entity, but the listings, the keywords and the tax position all have to be handled on their own terms.
The language is the part sellers underestimate. Italian is an inflected language: nouns carry gender, singular and plural are different words, and Italian does not stack nouns the way English does. Where English writes "phone case", Italian uses a preposition, as in "custodia per telefono", and the same pattern runs through everyday product names. A listing translated word for word from an English original can be perfectly grammatical and still match none of the phrasings shoppers type. Keyword work here is research in Italian, not translation of an English keyword list.
Fulfilment is the other structural decision, and it feeds directly back into advertising. You can serve Italian orders from stock held in another European country, or place stock inside Italy. Holding inventory in Italy creates an Italian VAT registration obligation, while serving from abroad avoids that but lengthens the delivery promise a shopper sees on the listing. Delivery speed feeds into conversion, and conversion is what your bids are ultimately buying, so the fulfilment choice sets the ceiling on what your advertising can do.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Italy
Research keywords in Italian, do not translate them
Italian builds product phrases with prepositions such as "da" and "per" where English stacks nouns together, so a machine-translated keyword list produces correct Italian that nobody searches for. Build the list from Italian autocomplete and from your own Italian search term reports, then confirm relevance against what amazon.it actually returns for the query.
Cover gender, plural and accent variants
Exact match treats every surface form as a separate string, so the masculine, feminine, singular and plural forms of the same product noun are separate keywords. Italian shoppers also type accented words without the accent, so hold both spellings rather than assuming one form will collect the other's traffic.
Keep the English loanwords Italians actually use
Some categories, electronics and fashion in particular, use English terms in everyday Italian alongside the native word. Dropping the loanword because it is not Italian, or dropping the Italian word because your source list was English, leaves half the phrasing uncovered. Hold both and let the search term report decide which one earns the budget.
Recalibrate placement modifiers when you clone a campaign
There is no separate placement bid: modifiers multiply the keyword bid, so the two compound. A structure copied from another marketplace arrives with modifiers tuned to that market sitting on top of an Italian base bid that was never calibrated. Set the base bid to the worst converting placement's economics, then raise the better placements with modifiers derived from relative conversion rate, never from placement ACoS, which conflates the keyword's bid with the placement's quality.
Derive the Italian hourly curve rather than importing it
Italy sits in a single time zone, so hourly figures are not smeared across regions the way they are in a multi zone market. Build the schedule from hourly revenue per click measured against your own overall revenue per click, and express it as bid modifiers over untouched base bids. A weak hour deserves a lower bid, not absence, so do not pause hours and do not try to control them with daily budgets.
Plan around the Italian calendar
Italy has dates that do not exist elsewhere in Europe. Epiphany on 6 January is a gift-giving occasion for children, Ferragosto on 15 August falls in the traditional August holiday period, and the Immacolata holiday on 8 December is traditionally when households put up Christmas decorations. The saldi end-of-season sales are scheduled by each region rather than nationally, so the discount calendar is not uniform across the country. A schedule ported from another market will miss all of this.
Top Categories
- Home & Kitchen (Casa e Cucina)
- Beauty (Bellezza)
- Sports & Outdoors (Sport e Tempo Libero)
- DIY & Tools (Fai da te)
- Health & Personal Care (Salute e cura della persona)
- Pet Supplies (Prodotti per animali domestici)
Challenges
- -Listings, keywords and ad copy need native Italian localisation, not translation
- -Holding stock in Italy creates an Italian VAT registration obligation, while serving from another country avoids it but lengthens the delivery promise
- -Producer responsibility obligations, including the CONAI packaging contribution and RAEE registration for electricals
- -Gender, number and accent variants multiply the exact-match term list you have to maintain
- -Buyer messages, returns and A-to-z correspondence arrive in Italian and have to be answered in Italian
Opportunities
- +A single time zone makes the hourly picture cleaner to read than in a multi zone market
- +Copy written in Italian matches phrasings that a translated listing does not carry at all
- +Stock already held elsewhere in Europe can serve Italian orders without a separate supply chain
- +The Italian holiday calendar differs from northern Europe's, so the campaign schedule is planned on its own dates
- +Euro pricing alongside Germany, France and Spain keeps margin comparison straightforward
