Amazon Poland PPC Guide

Amazon Poland opened in 2021 and sells in Polish złoty to Polish-speaking shoppers. Learn how the language, the tax position and the national calendar change the way campaigns are built.

Marketplace: amazon.pl | Currency: PLN

Marketplace Overview

Amazon Poland (amazon.pl) opened in March 2021, which makes it one of the newer European storefronts rather than one that has been trading for decades. Shoppers browse in Polish and pay in Polish złoty. Poland sits inside the European Union and its customs union but outside the eurozone, so the currency you earn here is not the currency most sellers arriving from western Europe keep their costs in.

Those facts decide most of what is different about advertising in Poland. A campaign structure copies across from another marketplace without much trouble, but the keyword list underneath it does not, because Polish is a heavily inflected language and the terms shoppers type are not the terms a translation tool produces. Prices are shown inclusive of Polish VAT, so a shelf price carried over at face value does not leave you the same net revenue it did in the market you took it from, which means the target ACoS built on that older net figure no longer holds.

For a seller expanding in, the sensible order is to prove demand before taking on compliance. Existing EU inventory can serve Polish orders from another member state, which generally keeps a Polish VAT registration out of scope until you place stock in the country, though you should confirm your own position with an adviser before committing. Treat the first few months as a discovery exercise: run wider match types than you normally would, read the search-term report closely, and build the manual campaigns out of what Polish shoppers actually typed.

PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Poland

1

Harvest Polish keywords rather than translating them

Polish declines nouns and adjectives through seven grammatical cases, and adjectives agree with the noun in gender, number and case, so one product concept appears in many written forms. A translated English list produces terms that are grammatically valid but commercially wrong, and diminutives can shift the meaning outright. Run automatic and broad campaigns for a longer discovery period than you would in a language you speak, then promote a term into a manual campaign once it has produced two or more orders on the same SKU.

2

Cover unaccented spellings as separate terms

Polish uses the diacritics ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź and ż, and shoppers frequently type without them. Keep your listing copy correctly accented for the customer, but treat the stripped spellings as distinct search terms in your keyword and negative coverage, because that is the form in which many of them arrive in the report.

3

Expect one negative per word form, not per concept

Matching keys off the string the shopper typed, and every Polish case ending is a different string, so a negative exact will not reliably cover the rest of the paradigm. Negative phrase is the better instrument here because each entry also blocks the longer queries containing that form. The rule for what to negate does not change: negate irrelevance, never performance, and give a non-converting term enough clicks before you judge it.

4

Plan for a two-peak December

Polish children receive small gifts on Mikołajki, 6 December, and the main presents are opened on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. That gives the season an early minor peak and a last useful delivery date that falls before the 24th, so the point at which a click can still convert arrives earlier than in markets that open gifts on the 25th. Bring bid and stock planning forward to match.

5

Do not port a foreign weekly pattern into Poland

Sunday trading for most large physical shops in Poland is restricted to designated trading Sundays, and online orders sit outside those restrictions, so the weekly and hourly shape of demand here is not the one you measured in a market where the high street opens every Sunday. Gather at least a full month of Poland's own hourly data before you schedule anything, and express the result as bid modifiers rather than pausing campaigns or cutting day budgets, because a weak hour deserves a lower bid rather than absence.

6

Test with European fulfilment before placing stock in Poland

Serving amazon.pl from inventory already held in another EU country generally avoids a Polish VAT registration, because the obligation is triggered by holding goods in the country rather than by selling to it. Prove the demand that way first, then move stock in, and enrol in the programmes that store it locally, once the volume justifies the registration and the JPK_VAT reporting that follows.

Challenges

  • -Polish listings and keywords cannot be produced by translation alone
  • -Holding stock in Poland triggers VAT registration and JPK_VAT reporting
  • -Złoty revenue against a euro, pound or dollar cost base moves your breakeven
  • -Inflected search terms multiply the size of the negative keyword list
  • -Polish shoppers had established local online shopping habits before the store opened

Opportunities

  • +A storefront that opened in 2021, so your own search-term data counts for more than assumptions carried in from older marketplaces
  • +Existing EU inventory can serve the marketplace without a new VAT registration
  • +Polish keyword research is hard to copy, so the work compounds into a position rivals cannot lift wholesale
  • +National dates such as Mikołajki create planned peaks a generic Q4 calendar misses
  • +EU membership means European compliance and fulfilment work largely carries over
