Amazon China PPC Guide
Amazon closed its amazon.cn seller marketplace in 2019. China now matters to Amazon sellers as a manufacturing base and as a registration route into overseas stores, and both change how you plan stock and how you advertise.
Marketplace: amazon.cn | Currency: CNY
Marketplace Overview
Amazon China (amazon.cn) is not a marketplace you can list on. Amazon stopped providing seller services on amazon.cn in July 2019 and closed the domestic third-party marketplace there. The domain still operates, but mainly as a cross-border shop through which customers in China order from Amazon's international stores, not as a venue where independent sellers hold their own listings.
Because there is no third-party marketplace, there is no amazon.cn advertising console, no China advertising account and no China marketplace identifier in Amazon's Selling Partner API. The Far East endpoint of that API serves Japan, Australia and Singapore. There is no Amazon China selling account for a tool to connect to, so a plan that treats China as a store to expand into needs rewriting before it costs you time.
China still matters to Amazon sellers in two concrete ways, and both are about goods rather than listings. Chinese manufacturers and trading companies supply much of what is sold in Amazon's Western and Japanese stores, so China sets the production calendar and a large part of the landed cost. Through Amazon Global Selling, a business registered in China can also open accounts on those overseas stores directly. In both cases the advertising, the shopping language and the tax obligations belong to the destination marketplace. The categories listed further down this page are sourcing categories, the goods China commonly supplies into those stores, and not categories you can sell on amazon.cn.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon China
Your ad account lives in the destination country
There is no amazon.cn advertising console. A business registered through Global Selling advertises inside the store it sells in, in that store's language and currency. Bids, budgets and reporting are denominated in the destination currency, so a move in the renminbi changes your real cost per click while the console shows no change at all. Judge targets against your own cost base, not against the reported figure alone.
Harvest keywords, never translate them
The shopping language is the destination's, not yours. Translating a Chinese product term into English, German or Japanese reliably produces phrasing that is grammatically correct and almost never typed into a search box. Take terms from the destination store's own search term report, from competitor listings and from what automatic campaigns surface, then promote the ones that convert. A translated keyword list is a guess. A harvested one is evidence.
Build stock cover around the Spring Festival shutdown
Chinese New Year falls on a lunar date in January or February, and factories close around it, with output slowing before the holiday and ramping back gradually afterwards. National Day on 1 October brings a second stop, and Singles' Day on 11 November competes for factory attention and freight capacity. Order and ship early enough to cover the gap, because a campaign that converts into a stockout pays for a ranking you then lose.
Fix conversion before you raise the bid
A higher bid buys more clicks at the same conversion rate. It does not change why shoppers are not buying. When a listing is losing on price, images or review depth, extra spend raises cost without moving the ranking, because ranking follows sales rather than clicks. Treat a weak conversion rate as a listing problem, solve it there, and every bid becomes cheaper in effect.
Put compliance representation in place before you spend
Selling into the EU requires a responsible person established in the EU for many product categories, and the UK requires its own separately. A listing suppressed for a missing compliance contact wastes the advertising spend that drove traffic to it and surrenders the ranking that spend had built. Confirm representation, labelling and documentation for each destination before a single campaign goes live.
Set ACoS targets on net proceeds, not the shelf price
When a seller with no establishment in the destination country sells to UK or EU consumers through a marketplace, the marketplace is in many cases treated as the supplier for VAT and collects the tax itself. What reaches your account then differs from the price displayed on the listing. An ACoS target calculated from the shelf price will read as healthy while the campaign loses money. Work back from net proceeds after tax, landed cost and fulfilment instead.

Challenges
- -No amazon.cn seller marketplace since 2019, so China cannot be a selling destination
- -Ocean transit plus a lunar calendar factory shutdown makes a stock mistake slow to correct
- -A seller with no establishment in the destination country faces VAT registration, customs clearance and importer of record duties in each country
- -The EU and the UK each require their own in-region responsible person for many product types
- -Listings and keywords have to be written by someone fluent in the destination shopping language, not translated into it
Opportunities
- +Direct access to manufacturing shortens the path from customer feedback to a revised unit
- +Amazon Global Selling registers a China-based business straight into overseas stores
- +Buying closer to the factory can widen the margin available to fund advertising
- +Packaging and product variations can be iterated faster than by a seller buying through intermediaries
