Amazon Egypt PPC Guide
Amazon Egypt trades in Arabic and English, with its own registration requirements and its own sale calendar. Learn how to build a PPC plan for it.
Marketplace: amazon.eg | Currency: EGP
Marketplace Overview
Amazon Egypt (amazon.eg) opened when Amazon converted the Egyptian Souq.com storefront into a full Amazon marketplace. It trades in Egyptian pounds and serves shoppers in both Arabic and English, and the site can be browsed in either language. Which language a shopper types into the search bar is the first thing that shapes a keyword plan here, and it is where campaign structures imported from an English language catalogue usually fall over.
Amazon's Egyptian seller advertising guidance covers Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Stores. Sponsored Brands and Stores both require enrolment in Brand Registry, and Sponsored Products requires the product to be eligible for Featured Offer placement, so a reseller who loses the Featured Offer stops serving entirely rather than serving at a worse rate. There is also an account level gate specific to Egypt: Amazon states that a verified Tax Registration Number is required to keep the account active and to run ads on the marketplace. Sort that before you build campaigns, not after the first ones fail to deliver.
Structurally, Egypt sits outside the European group. It is not an EU marketplace, so Pan-European FBA, the European unified account and EU VAT reporting do not extend to it. You register separately through the Egyptian seller portal with local identity or commercial registration documents and a bank account Amazon can pay proceeds into, and you place stock in local fulfilment rather than routing it from a European pool. Treat Egypt as a standalone market with its own pricing, its own inventory and its own calendar, not as an extra country switched on inside an existing European setup.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Egypt
Build the keyword plan in Arabic, do not translate it
A translated English keyword list gives you the words a translator would choose, not the words shoppers type. Start Arabic campaigns broad or with automatic targeting so the search term report tells you the real vocabulary, then promote what converts into exact and phrase. Keep English terms running alongside for brand names and technical product words, since both languages are in use on the same marketplace.
Treat Arabic spelling variants as terms to harvest, not to assume
Arabic is typed without diacritics, and several letters have forms shoppers use interchangeably, such as the alif variants, taa marbuta against haa, and yaa against alif maqsura. Amazon folds some variation into close variant matching, but you cannot assume every orthographic form is covered by the one you added. Read the search term report, add the variants that convert as their own keywords, and negate the ones that do not.
Anchor the calendar to Ramadan and Eid, not to fixed months
Amazon Egypt runs a Ramadan Sale and an Eid Sale alongside White Friday in late November. Ramadan and Eid follow the lunar calendar, so they move earlier in the Gregorian year each year and last year's dates will not repeat. Build budget ramps against the coming year's actual dates, and check whether shopping hours during Ramadan differ from your normal pattern before you leave a dayparting schedule running unchanged.
Treat cash on delivery orders as provisional revenue
Cash on delivery is an available payment method on amazon.eg. Advertising reports credit an order at the point of purchase, and an order refused at the door is cancelled after the click that won it, so the console can show a sale that never settles. Reconcile advertising performance against settled payouts before you raise bids on the back of a strong week, otherwise you optimise towards orders that went back to the courier.
Clear the Tax Registration Number before building campaigns
Amazon's Egyptian seller guidance states that a verified Tax Registration Number is required to keep an amazon.eg account activated and to run ads on the marketplace. This is an account level gate, not a campaign setting, so no amount of bid or budget work compensates for it. Confirm the registration is verified in the account before you commit spend or build out a structure you cannot switch on.
Set targets from your own breakeven, never an imported number
A target ACoS copied from another marketplace carries that marketplace's prices, fees and costs with it. Work from breakeven instead, which is price minus cost of goods minus fees, divided by price, and express every target relative to that. This matters more in Egypt than in a single currency market: if you import stock, your landed cost is set in one currency while your selling price is set in Egyptian pounds, so breakeven moves whenever the exchange rate does and a fixed ACoS goal quietly stops meaning what it meant.
